Three uniquely designed Holiday Lodges

Copthorne, Sussex

Project Overview

The client approached us with the vision of establishing a designated holiday location on a piece of land adjacent to their home. Nestled between woodland on three sides, the site had previously been used as paddocks but was completely cut off from any services, necessitating our expertise in installing civil engineering aspects for fresh water, power, and waste treatment.

To ensure the site’s sustainability, we installed a waste treatment plant that collects waste from all three units, treating it and releasing safe, potable water back into a nearby watercourse. Additionally, we implemented Starlink satellite connectivity, creating a dedicated network to serve each lodge independently, allowing guests to remain connected despite the semi-remote location.

Design and Features

The brief was to transform the land by designing and building three ecologically sound, low environmental impact self-contained holiday lodges that would integrate sympathetically into the surrounding woodland. We utilised environmentally friendly screw pile foundations, which negate the need for concrete, are fully demountable, and are much kinder to the site, allowing for minimal disturbance to the landscape. The external appearance of the structures was intentionally innocuous, juxtaposed against individually curated interiors that rival the luxury finishes of boutique hotels. The positioning of the lodges ensured privacy for each user, while thoughtfully laid out roadways and parking spaces facilitated access to the site.

Unit One

This lodge features a monochrome theme, complete with marble tile flooring, striking interior panelling, and a high-spec shower room. Externally, a private fenced decking area with seating, a hot tub, and an outdoor cinema adds to the allure for potential clients seeking a truly luxurious getaway. A fully glazed elevation offers breathtaking views of the endless woods, enhancing the sense of being immersed in nature.

Unit Two

In this unit, a feature rockery headboard and a partition wall with an open fireplace create a centrepiece in the open-plan bedroom space. A freestanding bathtub with floor-mounted taps offers an experience akin to a high-end hotel nestled in the remote woodland. Floral wall displays, paired with bespoke branded neon signage, enhance the ambiance of this lodge. Externally, guests can enjoy a hot tub, an outdoor cinema, and a rainfall shower, completing the high-end specification that attracts visitors.

Unit Three

The third uniquely designed unit boasts the most luxurious interior, featuring a dual-aspect glazed design that houses an almost ostentatious circular bed. Bespoke panelling invites users into a stylish bathroom, complete with artificial floral wall displays backlit in a bespoke alcove. Dual basins mounted on a floating shelf, complemented by golden swan taps, add an extra touch of elegance. The entire space features pink marble effect tiles, creating a cohesive and opulent aesthetic.

Since completion, these units have achieved a considerable level of occupancy, effectively kickstarting the client’s ambition to build a valuable holiday letting business. Their clients are willing to pay in excess of £800 per night to stay in one of the lodges during peak weekends, solidifying the project's success.
